Weldon hosts local SME meeting
For Immediate Release - York, PA April 23, 2009
Weldon Solutions recently hosted the first event in their new facility, a monthly meeting of the York Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME Chapter 22). Thirty-five SME members attended the Tuesday, April 21st event.
The evening began in the main conference room with a complete company overview provided by Weldon President, George Sipe. Next the group was broken into thirds, and on a rotating basis, each group attended mini-seminars on FANUC Robotic Vision systems delivered by Charles Gales, Weldon Manager of Automation Sales (and SME member), a Peel Grinding demonstration in the new facility Demo Area, and a full facility tour.
Denny Rowe, Weldon's Director of Sales and Marketing, conducted the facility tour which included an overview of robotic simulation software, an explanation of Weldon's use of the patented sheer damper base in their grinder manufacturing, an overview of their Toshiba drives business, and automation components including bakery material handling, material removal and machine tending. The tour concluded with a demonstration of their Remstar inventory management system.
"It takes a ton of effort to put together as comprehensive a program as Weldon produced," said Gales. "We had very positive feedback from the attendees not only because of our new fantastic facility, but also because of the remarkable educational aspects of the evening."
Weldon Solutions traces its roots back to the Flinchbaugh family of the late 19th century. The company name has evolved from Weldon Hydraulics to Weldon Machine Tool to Weldon Solutions. The company recently moved into a new 40,000 square foot manufacturing facility and company headquarters to accommodate the design and manufacture of its industry-leading CNC Cylindrical Grinders and Automated Robotic and Material Handling Systems.
The Weldon grinder line consist of 9 different grinders (OD, ID and OD/ID) that can now accurately finish parts up to 60" in length. Weldon grinders operate reliably and efficiently in the automotive, diesel, aerospace, medical and other industries. Customers have come to rely on the rugged dependability of their Weldon grinders as they finish both ferrous and non-ferrous materials to incredibly demanding levels of precision.
As a FANUC Robotics System Integrator for the past 10 years, Weldon Solutions has automated a broad range of cost saving applications for manufacturers in many industries. Recent projects utilized robots for machine loading, product stacking, adhesive application and quality inspection. The use of machine vision to guide the path of a robot has been at the heart of recent installations.
