Benefits of customized end-of-arm tooling for your robots
Weldon Solutions has supplied hundreds of FANUC robotic arms to manufacturers in almost every industry, performing a wide range of tasks.
To have robots perform particular tasks, each is equipped with End-of-Arm Tooling, or EOAT. This custom-designed critical component allows for robots to perform their tasks in the most efficient manner possible.
Recently, Weldon Solutions was awarded automation projects that included its largest and smallest EOAT to date. Read on to learn more about the SR-3iA 4-Axis SCARA and the M-900iB/400L 6-Axis Robots.
SR-3iA 4-Axis SCARA Robot
With a maximum payload of 3 kg (6.6 lbs), the SR-3iA robot was used in the medical device industry due to its capability of handling two different parts. One part, the valve, is the smallest part ever handled by Weldon Solutions – less than 1/8-inch in diameter and weighing only 0.003 grams… it’s practically weightless.
The EOAT allows the valve to be precisely assembled onto a medical device. There it plays a critical role during surgery.
M-900iB/400L 6-Axis Robot
The M-900 robot, which has a maximum payload of 400 kg (882 lbs), was used in the baked foods industry. In its role, the M-900 handles five large bakery pans, each weighing 35 pounds.
The large clamping EOAT has a footprint that is approximately 5.5 feet by 12 feet. The EOAT frame and tooling combine to weigh more than 300 pounds.
The bakery pans and EOAT in total can weigh over 475 pounds… but custom engineering design and a FANUC robot handle the work easily!
